FINE ART WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

What is fine art wedding photography?

Fine art wedding photography offers something different and goes slightly against the current huge trend for wedding photojournalism (documentary wedding photography or wedding reportage). It's about the photographer as an artist understanding the vision you have for your day and turning your memories and experiences of your day into a cohesive body of art for you to cherish. It's a more artisan approach to photography and it aims to create something unique and specifically tailored to you.

One of the draw backs of pure wedding photojournalism is that the photographer is there purely as an observer. They don't interact with the subjects. If something amazing is happening in poor light then it either won't get photographed or compromises will have to be made in the photograph.

As a female wedding photographer I know just how particular we can be about our photographs. I also understand that we want to have our photographs taken from the most flattering angles and in the most flattering light. My starting point is always to observe what is happening in front of me but sometimes if I feel something can be improved photographically I might give some very small suggestions. It can be as simple as asking your make up artist to set up the chair next to the window so that are wrapped in gorgeous, soft lighting. Or asking you to put your shoes on whilst sitting on the coolest chair in the house. The rest is up to you. I don't interfere with what would happen naturally as I want your photographs to have a genuine warmth and honesty about them.

With some occasional light direction and through understanding what your wedding means to you a cohesive body of work can be created. A set of photographs which represent all the joy and emotion of the day but also a sense of place, details and colour; a combination of real life and fine art.
